Trio Busted In Broken-Up Illegal Car Meet-Up In Suffolk: Police

They were charged with three with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and unlawful speed contest., police said.

YAPHANK, NY — A trio of men were rounded up on several charges and their vehicles seized after they took part in an illegal car meet-up in Yaphank — not too far from police headquarters — on Saturday night, Suffolk police said.

During an investigation, investigators determined an illegal car meet-up was taking place on Zorn Boulevard at around 11:40 p.m., police said. The department's headquarters are located off Yaphank Avenue, as the sheriff's and probation offices.

During the broken-up meet-up, officers charged the three with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and unlawful speed contest, all misdemeanor charges, according to police.

They include a 23-year-old Sayville man driving a 2006 Ford Mustang; a 25-year-old Ridge man in a 2020 Dodge Charger; and a 20-year-old from Riverhead driving a 2014 Ford F-350, police said.

All three of their vehicles were seized, and the trio was released on desk appearance tickets returnable at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.
