PATCHOGUE, NY — Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue recently discharged its 700th coronavirus patient. Joan Desmond, whose daughter works as the Emergency Department nurse, was finally able to leave the local hospital and head home on Wednesday.

"We were so pleased to see our patient, Joan Desmond, get strong enough to go home and get back to her life," a post on the hospital's Facebook page read. "Seeing the smile on her daughter’s face was extra special, as she is one of our Emergency Department nurses."

Desmond was wheeled out of the hospital as a small crowd of employees clapped and cheered.
