Woman Hurt in Hit-and-Run Boat Crash in Patchogue

Passengers on the boat fled the scene and were "uncooperative" when tracked down by police.

A Farmingdale woman was injured after a boat she was riding in crashed into a jetty in the Patchogue River Sunday night, police said.

The woman, 29-year-old Danielle Virgilio, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau, Aviation Section and Fifth Precinct officers, along with members of the Patchogue Fire Department, responded to the crash, which occurred at about 9:20 p.m. Police said a 23-foot 1987 Sea Ray crashed into the west jetty at the entrance of the Patchogue River.

Witnesses reported that up to seven people were on the boat at the time of the crash. Several of the boat’s occupants were located nearby and interviewed by responding officers but were uncooperative, police said.

A search of the surrounding waters was conducted to locate potential additional victims but none were found, police said.

The vessel suffered extensive damage and was secured in place. Police are attempting to locate the owner, who is responsible for removing it from the rocks.
