Another State Union Declines to Endorse Gov. Cuomo

AFL-CIO endorsed Cuomo four years ago.

On the heels of the state Teachers Union taking a pass on endorsing Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) has also declined to endorse the incumbent Democrat.

The powerful union, which represents more than 2.5 million public, private and building trade workers and retirees in the state, is endorsing fellow Democratic incumbents Eric Schneiderman for attorney general and Tom DiNapoli for comptroller, but left Cuomo off their list.

Four years ago, Cuomo received the AFL-CIO endorsement, according to the New York Post.

The AFL-CIO snub could be related to the teacher group’s decision not to endorse Cuomo, because the two unions are closely aligned. Cuomo supports Common Core and controversial teacher evaluations, which the two groups oppose, writes the Post.
