Bardonia Man Accused Of Emergency Room Assault

Under state law, an assault becomes a felony if the victim is acting in their capacity as medical professional.

NYACK, NY — A Bardonia resident faces a felony assault charge after an incident at Nyack Montefiore Hospital . Orangetown police were called to the Emergency Department at 3 p.m. Friday.

They learned, they said, that Steven T. Butterfield, 37, had punched a medical professional in the head. The punch caused a laceration which needed medical attention.

The assault charge becomes a felony if the victim is acting in their capacity as a medical professional when attacked.

Butterfield was arraigned and sent to Rockland County Jail, police said.
