From New City to Rome: STAC Student Studies Abroad

I am a junior at STAC and I am writing about a close friend who is currently studying abroad.

From eating the usual 16 Handles in New City frozen yogurt, to indulging in some Italian Gelato in the center of Rome.

Current St. Thomas Aquinas College student Michele Piscitelli has been lucky enough to be picked to study abroad. The program she had chosen to take was going to three amazing countries in a matter of four months. Currently Michele is studying art history in Rome, Italy. In a few weeks she will make her way to studying in France. From France, she will make her last stop in Spain and study her last month there.

Classes in Italy take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. But the classes in Italy run much different then here in America. On Tuesdays, the students have a lecture by there professors. Then on Wednesdays, the students watch a film based on what their lecture was about, so they are able to get a better understanding on what they have listened to. Thursdays, when the week comes to an end, students travel to museums and other historical areas.

“I look forward to my Thursday classes the most! I am able to travel around Italy and see great art and statues," Piscitell said. "I love Italy so far, and it’s the only the beginning! I am afraid I will never want to leave!”

She mentioned that she has from Friday to Monday to do whatever she wants.  So far, after she finishes her quick and easy homework, she plans weekend trips to different cities in Italy.

“So far I have been to Naples, Firenze, and Capri, they are so gorgeous, and I got so many breath-taking pictures," Piscitelli said

She has been studying in Italy for almost a month, and she knows she made an amazing choice to do this for her college career. She is able to travel and see beautiful things all around the world. She advises all students who get the opportunity to study aboard to do so and take advantage of it.

“I think this will change any students outlook on life because I’ve only been here for a few weeks, and I already know it has changed mine," She said.
