Orangetown Town Field Use

Orangetown Town Field Use

I would like to know how Don Bosco Prep used town fields on Orangeburg Rd, utilized mainly by OMM/World Class, for their tryouts for two weeks in August week of August 13 and August 20.

Although OMM/WorldClass and the town would like residents to believe it was a camp, it was indeed tryouts for Don Bosco’s soccer team. Don Bosco didn't have a permit from the town or pay to use the fields. They are a private school and should not be on our town fields for two weeks, two hours a day for tryouts.

Did the town even know? Organizations are always acquiring permits and paying fees to use town property. There was nothing in the board minutes about Bosco getting a permit to use the fields. Most recently, the Sons of Italy are paying $350 a day to utilize a town mobile for their fair.

So why wasn’t Don Bosco required to go through the proper channels and pay? They are not even part of our community. At least the Sons of Italy are and they give back to our community. If local countyschools are in a bind. I say as long as they go through the proper channels, we should help out a neighboring public school in our community. But Don Bosco should not have held their tryouts there.

Many families contributed when those fields were built by paying a field fee and all residents continue to pay taxes that go towards that field. Don Bosco should not be on them at all, but how they were using them without a permit or paying for them is a question someone needs to answer.
