First Day on Earth by Cecil Castellucci
Four years ago, Malcolm was abducted by aliens for three days. He was found in the desert, and although he claims alien abduction, most people don’t believe him. He attends group meetings to deal with the anger and pain of being abandoned and neglected by his parents and to feel a sense of belonging with others. He eventually meets Hooper, an alien sent to Earth to observe. Mal finally begins to open up and heal over what has transpired.

Older Teens

The Daughters by Joanna Philbin
This book about three 14-year-old BFFs--Lizzie, Carina, and Hudson have parents who are all famous. The first in this series is narrated by Lizzie, the only child of international supermodel Katia Summers. She has fuzzy hair, a large nose and does not resemble her mother at all. Bombarded by the media, Lizzie makes one discordant comment about her mom and suddenly she's all over YouTube. As a result of her outburst, Lizzie is discovered as an "ugly model" with a real-life look, and she's plunged into her mother's world of fame.

Tamar by Mal Peet
This book seamlessly fits together two story lines: The first is the tale of Dart and Tamar, members of the Dutch resistance during World War II; the second is the story of another Tamar, granddaughter to the first and heir to his papers after he commits suicide. In these mysterious papers she will follow a path to unravel his cryptic past and clues to her own identity.
