Bridge Repair Funding For Rockland County

The BRIDGE NY initiative focuses on projects that address deteriorated structural conditions.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — More than $262.2 million in enhanced funding has been awarded to municipal governments to accelerate the renewal and modernization of local bridges and culverts. $3.6 million will go to repair local problems.

“This money will help Rockland County as we continue to improve our infrastructure,” said County Executive Ed Day. “County residents and tourists visiting from as far away as Ireland and China will benefit from these needed upgrades. I am appreciative that the Bridge NY Program and Governor Cuomo recognized the merit of these projects, and I thank the Rockland County Highway Department and our grant writing consultants Millennium Strategies for their hard work preparing the grant applications.”

The State's BRIDGE NY initiative is funding 165 individual projects in 95 communities across the State. This funding builds on the $300 million in enhanced assistance made available to municipal governments for accelerated bridge and culvert projects since 2015.

"Investing in transportation infrastructure is critical to our economic prosperity and the safety of New Yorkers and visitors alike," Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said in the announcement. "By providing Bridge NY funding to local governments in every region of the State, we are ensuring bridges and culverts remain safe and reliable and continue supporting economic growth for decades to come."

The 165 projects, which include 86 bridges and 79 culverts, were selected following a competitive process that considered, among other factors, the structural condition of a bridge or culvert and its resiliency and significance, based upon traffic volumes and detour considerations.
