Byram Hills pitcher Anthony Russo struck out seven in a two-hit shutout to give the Bobcats a 1-0 victory at home against Pearl River in the first round of the Section 1 Class A playoffs Wednesday.
Kaleen Hatheway scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to give Byram Hills the victory.
Pearl River senior John Doherty matched Russo for six innings. He struck out three and gave up no earned runs on five hits.
It was the second consecutive season that Pearl River lost to Byram Hills in the first round of the playoffs.
