Center for Safety & Change Seeks Volunteers for Rape Crisis Program and Domestic Violence Hotline
Rape crisis and domestic violence hotline volunteers needed, those fluent in Spanish, French, Creole and Sign Language especially needed.
Center for Safety & Change is in need of volunteers who are interested in becoming rape crisis counselors and/or answering domestic violence hotline calls. Those interested are invited to attend an information session on Monday, September 14th from 6-7:30 p.m., or Tuesday, September 15th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Center for Safety & Change, 9 Johnsons Lane, New City, NY. Attendance at one information session is necessary.
Bi-lingual candidates, certified ASL interpreters, as well as people from all diverse cultures and those in the LGBTQ community are strongly encouraged to participate to become trained volunteers to assist survivors. Volunteers will receive training on the dynamics of domestic violence, crisis intervention, reactions to trauma, medical and legal aspects of sexual assault and other related topics.
Volunteers for these two programs continue to make a difference in the lives of survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and all violent crimes. In 2014, the Center received over 1,600 hotline calls through the agency’s 24-hour hotline and assisted 336 survivors of sexual assault.
