Charges, Lawsuit in Porsche's Fiery, Fatal Crash

PEARL RIVER, NY — The drivers alleged to have been drag racing on Route 304 before the fiery October crash that killed two now face criminal charges and a civil wrongful-death lawsuit, The Journal News reported.

Aisha Radoncic, 17, of Orangeburg, was driving a 2017 Porsche with two passengers. Jason Castro, 44, of Nanuet, was alone in a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta. Police said they began to race at 3:25 p.m. Oct. 13, 2019.

Orangetown police allege Aisha Radoncic and Castro were driving recklessly, causing the crash that killed her two passengers: Altin Nezaj, 17, of Pearl River, and Radoncic’s cousin, 15-year-old Saniha Cekic of Brooklyn.

At the Crooked Hill Road overpass, the Porsche plunged off Route 304 onto the New Jersey Transit train tracks and burst into flames.

Last week, Orangetown police charged Radoncic and Castro with criminally negligent homicide, The Journal News reported. They pleaded not guilty.

The Nezaj family filed a lawsuit in Rockland Supreme Court in mid-June, according to TJN. It names not only the drivers but also Aisha Radoncic's parents for allowing her to drive the car. In the suit, the family alleges a host of reckless driving decisions culminating with Castro cutting into Radoncic's lane, causing her to swerve off the road.
