Crash Injures 6 Seriously; Driver Faces Felony Charges

The accident happened Sunday in Pearl River.

PEARL RIVER, NY — A horrific crash Sunday was caused by a drunk driver operating without a valid license, Orangetown police allege. It caused serious injuries to the driver, his passenger, and three people in the car police say he hit head-on. A sixth person received minor injuries.

Hillsdale resident Kevin Thompson is facing five felony charges of vehicular assault; aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony; and driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

The collision occurred at 5:45 p.m. on West Washington Avenue in Pearl River, police said. Police allege Thompson crossed the double yellow line and hit the other car head-on.

Pearl River Fire Department, Medic 21, Medic 5, Pearl River Ambulance Corps, South Orangetown Ambulance Corps, Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps and Ramapo FAST all responded.
