Fight Over Car Keys Leads To Felony Charge In Orangeburg

Police said witnesses and surveillance video footage showed the 19-year-old forcibly trying to take keys from a woman he knew.

ORANGEBURG, NY — A man who police say attacked a woman he knew at Lowe's on Sunday has been charged with attempted robbery.

Orangetown police were called at 3:23 p.m. to the home improvement superstore on Route 303 in Orangeburg.

After hearing from the victim and witnesses and watching video surveillance footage, police said that D'Aveaun S. Whittle grabbed and pulled the woman by the waist, neck and head, and tried to take her car keys.

The 19-year-old Spring Valley resident was charged with third-degree attempted robbery, which is a felony. He was sent after arraignment to the Rockland County Jail.
