Fire At Aluf Plastics Was Mechanical

Firefighters came out at 3 a.m. Sunday from all around Orangetown.

PEARL RIVER, NY – The fire alarm went off at Aluf Plastics at 2:50 a.m. Sunday. Orangetown police who responded found smoke, and firefighters found fire in the air filtration system.

The blaze was fought by the Orangeburg Fire Department with help from Blauvelt, Tappan, Sparkill and Pearl River firefighters. Piermont and Central Nyack provided standby support.

At the scene also were South Orangetown Ambulance Corps and Rockland Paramedics, as well as representatives from SUEZ water and O&R.

A firefighter suffered abrasions on his hands, Orangetown police said.

The fire was caused by a mechanical malfunction inside the air filtration system, according to a preliminary report from the Orangetown Fire Inspector.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation was notified to check for potentially contaminated water runoff into nearby storm drains from fire department operations.
