ORANGEBURG, NY — Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester) joined ARC of Rockland as they celebrated a ribbon-cutting at Glaze Pottery and Art Studio.

Glaze Pottery is a paint-your-own pottery studio where people of all ages can come to express their creativity. It is owned by ARC and operated by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Carlucci helped ARC to secure $70,000 in funding, which will be used to train and hire more people with developmental disabilities.

The $70,000 in funding will be used to enhance paid employment internship programs for people with developmental disabilities. These programs will be held at ARC of Rockland’s Strawtown Jewelry Store in New City and ARC’s Glaze Art and Pottery Studio in the Town of Orangeburg.

“Individuals with disabilities may exhaust the funding allotted by the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities,” said Senator Carlucci. “A person may still require additional support and employment services. This funding will help bridge that gap and ensure ARC of Rockland has the resources necessary to assist individuals with disabilities to achieve and sustain employment, and to develop work readiness skills in an integrated environment.”

“Many of the skills gained through this initiative are transferable to other retail venues. The ultimate goal is for the participants to secure gainful employment either at one of our ARC businesses or elsewhere in the community,” said ARC of Rockland CEO Carmine Marchionda.
