Title - Good Things Are Happening in Rockland County!

Take a break from all the bad news that abounds and enjoy some good news; dedicate a few minutes to read some information you will feel good about for a change.

Let's start with the iconic Summer Camp Venture in northern Rockland, in the Town of Stony Point. The Camp was envisioned/built in 1970 by the parents of children born with intellectual or developmental disabilities. It was inspired and created by the late Kathy Lukens.

The Camp was the first free summer day camp for this population and was operated by the parents. It was mega-successful creation, both in the short and long-term, crammed with fulfilled dreams, love, volunteers, excitement, and fun.

Sadly, as is in my case, time causes wear and tear; however, in the case of the Camp, a hero has come to save the day. The Venture Foundation, headed up by Bill Schule, is giving the Camp a terrific Face Lift that is sooo very exciting and will be open this summer with everything new, shiny, and reimagined.

The one improvement that stirs me beyond words is the new swimming pool with an entrance ramp that enables any movement-constrained person to walk or wheel up to the water level of their choice. No problematic or dangerous pool ladder is required to climb, and no pool lift chair.

This happy news is the brainchild of maestro Bill Schule, the Executive Director of the Venture Foundation. This organization helps finance the unfunded needs of "Venture Together" (nee Camp Venture). Bill is a legend in Rockland County for his many years of umpiring youth baseball games, creating the super successful "Buddy Ball" program, and his prominent role in the creation of the fabulous multi-sport fields on the former Rockland State hospital property, as well as his numerous other local community advocate endeavors.
