Gov. Cuomo Tries to Brush Off Moreland Commission Scandal
Gov. Andrew Cuomo spoke positively this week about the commission, the group which has drawn scrutiny from the federal government.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who last week was hit with a scandalous New York Times report about his administration’s dealings with the Moreland ethics commission, is trying to move on from the matter by denying any undue influence on the group, according to the New York Post.
At an event in Buffalo Monday, Cuomo is quoted by the Post as saying his office did not interfere with the commission’s work. The Times story documents incidents where members of Cuomo’s administration is believed to have interfered with the group, which was charged with rooting out corruption in state politics.
“The commission took advice and opinion from many, many people,” said Cuomo said, according to the Post. “Interference is different. Interference says their independence was trumped by the second floor.” The governor’s office is located on the second floor at the state capitol.
