Fire Conditions in Rockland: National Weather Service

Rockland County and northern New Jersey are targets of a Special Weather Statement.

The National Weather Service issued a notice to Rockland County, northern New Jersey, Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn Wednesday afternoon, warning about the risk of spreading fire.

West winds gusting to 20 to 25 mph and relative humidities falling to 30 to 35 percent percent will lead to an elevated risk for fire growth and spread this afternoon.

Temperatures will be well above normal with some 60 degree readings possible away from the coasts, the NWS said.

That's going to continue for one more day. Low pressure over central Canada will keep windy conditions in place through Thursday. Temperatures will remain above normal despite a colder airmass in place.
