Irene Impact on Pearl River Schools Minimal

Only Lincoln Avenue Elementary School remains without power Wednesday.

The Pearl River School District Administration reported only minor problems with school buildings due to Hurricane Irene.

Power was restored to Pearl River Middle School Tuesday evening. Lincoln Avenue Elementary was still without power Wednesday, Orange and Rockland is projecting that it will be taken care of by the end of the week, plenty of time Pearl River schools starting Sept. 7. Trees that fell on power lines disrupted service at and around both schools.

"All of the buildings took a bit of water, but not much," said Pearl River Director of Operations Quinton Van Wynen. "The getting ready for school was hot hampered much."

Director of Athletics Todd Santabarbara said the district's fields were in relatively good shape. The teams did make some use of the Orangetown Soccer fields to continue their preseason practices.
