Lincoln Ave. Elmentary Jumps Rope for Heart

Lincoln Avenue Elementary School in Pearl River raised $6,340 with its annual Jump Rope for Heart event.

Lincoln Avenue Elementary School teacher Diana Gillule organizes the school's annual Jump Rope for Heart Event.

The goal is to give students in Kindergarten through fourth grade the opportunity to give back to the community.

This year the event raised $6,340 for the American Heart Association, according to Lincoln Ave. Principal Katheenann Cool. The event is now in its 10th year and has raised between $3,000 and $7,000 each time.

U.S. Games, a physical education supply company donates $300 to the school for if the students raise over $3,000, a goal they have reached every year. The money is spent on physical education equipment for the school.

All of the students participate even if they did not raise money. Parents are also invited to take part. Each class chooses a song to jump rope to and they take turns jumping together as a class.
