"Love - The Jewel of Many Facets"
Hudson Valley Chorale sparkles in concert with a depiction of the various guises of the "Great Emotion."
Each of the chosen selections employs love as the common denominator, although their tone and direction range from connubial bliss to unrequited love. The program draws from several styles to illustrate the multi-faceted nature of love. From the world of opera, Wagner’s much-loved Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin, and Puccini’s beautiful Humming Chorus from Madama Butterfly illustrate the antipodes of love. Next, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ cantata, In Windsor Forest, shows the humorous vs. serious aspects of love by setting the words of Elizabethan poets, Shakespeare and Bacon, to song. The program culminates in a Broadway set in which the music of Jerome Kern/Oscar Hammerstein’s Showboat, Lerner and Lowe’s My Fair Lady, and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Aspects of Love present the full range and vagaries of love.
No matter what style you prefer, there is sure to be something you will enjoy, with a few surprises thrown in for good measure. The chorale will be under the baton of its new artistic director, Michael Shane Wittenburg, whose current affiliations include the Amore Opera (as chorus master) and the Bronx Opera, and will be accompanied on organ and piano by Michael Haigler, a notable conductor in his own right at the Bronx Opera (assistant conductor and chorus master).
