NY Forest Rangers Train Rockland Firefighters For Wildfires

Drought brought more wildland fires in the lower Hudson Valley in the summer of 2022.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Firefighters from three local departments recently finished a course on fighting wildfires taught by Forest Rangers from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The training took place at the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona on Jan. 10 and 14.

In the Basic Wildland Fire Suppression Course, rangers taught 20 volunteer firefighters from the Hillcrest, Stony Point, and Thiells fire departments. They covered multiple topics including communication and tools used during wildland fires and various methods of constructing a fire line.
