Opponents of Plastics Plant Mount Petition Drive Before Public Hearing in Orangetown
The online petition drive is ongoing; the hearing is coming up Sept. 21.
PEARL RIVER, NY — As a hearing looms on Aluf Plastics, a group called Clean Air for Orangetown has started gathering signatures online for a petition to ask local and county officials to force the plastic bag manufacturing company to stop its noxious chemical emissions.
Neighbors of Aluf Plastics, a 500,000 square foot facility with 70 extruders on Route 303, say because of the plastic-chemical odors, they can't use their yards and have to keep their windows closed. They are also concerned about the health implicationsof the emissions.
And they're very concerned because they say it's going on despite the fact that the company has been cited by the town and the state.
