Pearl River Man Arrested After Damaging Car, Standoff With Police

Orangetown police, special tactical unit called to South Henry Street.

A Pearl River man is being held in the county jail after an early morning incident in which he damaged a parked car and then threatened violence against any cops who tried to arrest him, according to Orangetown police.

Brett Wallace, 40, of 6 S. Henry St., Pearl River, is charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, and faces a hearing in Orangetown Town Court on Thursday. 

Police said they received a complaint at about 4:49 a.m. Saturday about a man in the parking lot of 6 S. Henry St. who was breaking windows and doing other extensive damage to a parked car. Police said the owner of the car confronted Wallace, who then ran into his residence.

Wallace, according to police, then made threats against police. When town police officers arrived Wallace refused to come out.

Orangetown police called in a countywide police tactical team to assist and by 7:20 a.m. Wallace came out of his residence and was taken into custody by police.

Wallace was arraigned in Town Court and ordered held in the Rockland County Correctional Facility in New City on $2,500 bail.

A NY Alert message was sent out to alert of a "civil disturbance" at site at 7:06 a.m., then another notice at 7:56 a.m. reported the police activity had been resolved.

Volunteers with the Pearl River Fire District responded to a call at that same address Feb. 10. The fire was contained to a plastic pail in the basement and was put out without incident.
