PEARL RIVER, NY — As the new year begins, our local officials are busy conducting the public's business in plain sight.

There are plenty of upcoming chances to help tend to our democracy close to the roots. The Orangetown Zoning Board of Appeals meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday, and will hold a public hearing about three applications, one of which concerns a property on Middletown Road in Pearl River.
