Pearl River Field Hockey Hands Irvington Its First Loss

Pearl River defeated Irvington, 2-1, Tuesday.

Sarah Nelson scored one goal and assisted on another in Pearl River's 2-1 victory over previously unbeaten Irvington Tuesday at home.

Amie Kovarik assisted on Nelson's goal in the first half. Jackie Dowling scored the game-winner with 7:22 remaining in the game. Goalie Adrienne Ammirati had six saves for Pearl River (5-4-1).

Kristen Palese scored on an assist by Ciara Morley for irvington (6-1-2).

Pearl River will play a pink game for breast cancer awareness 4 p.m. Wednesday against Nyack at home. The team will honor former field hockey coach and current Pearl River girls lacrosse coach Laurie Mayernick, who is a breast cancer survivor.
