Pearl River Fire Dept., O&R Respond to Gas Leak

The Pearl River Fire Department and Orange & Rockland Utilities workers were called in after a contractor struck a gas line at 119 Ann St. in Pearl River Thursday morning.

The contractor, who was working for O&R, was putting in a new gas main on the street and hit it while removing a rock at approximately 9:30 a.m., so the line had to be shut off. Residents were removed from the home as a precaution, but the situation was contained within half an hour.

"It was loud and gas was blowing," said a worker at the scene.

Work was still going on at 11 a.m. Ann St. is blocked, but people who need to pass are being allowed through.
