Pearl River Football Ends With Loss at Somers
Somers rolled past Pearl River, 48-9, in a DeMatteo Bowl Thursday at Somers.

Somers jumped on Pearl River early, taking a 25-point lead to the half on the way to a 48-9 victory Thursday in a DeMatteo Bowl game at Somers.
"We're all pretty crushed right now because the season ended the way it did," Pearl River Head Coach Jeff Michael said. "The seniors especially are heartbroken that their high school playing days are over."
Senior kicker Connor O'Sullivan kicked a 20-yard field goal in the second quarter to account for the Pirates' only first-half points. O'Sullivan also attempted a 63-yard field goal, which would have been a state record, on the final play of the game, but it fell short.

Senior Connor Madigan earned the Sportsmanship Award, given to the MVP of each team in a DeMatteo Bowl, by returning a kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.
The Pirates finished the season 6-3, losing their final three contests after a 6-0 start that included a second-consecutive victory over Nanuet in the Little Brown Jug game as its highlight.

"This senior crew started as freshman going 1-7 on JV and from sophomore year of JV and two years on varsity went a combined 18-5-1, including winning back to back Little Brown Jugs," Michael said.
