Pearl River Girls Soccer to Face Byram Hills Thursday

Pearl River will face a familiar foe in the Section 1 Class A quarterfinals 2 p.m. Thursday at the Orangetown Mighty Midgets Complex in Orangeburg -- Byram Hills.

The teams met in the season opener Sept. 7, a 2-1 Byram Hills victory.

Byram Hills Head Coach Bryan Horn came away from that one feeling fortunate.

“I have all the respect in the world for Tim and his program and what they do over here,” said Horn after the game. “We're just extremely fortunate. That was an even game and kind of unlucky for them at the end. We feel like we're stealing one here.”

The meeting before that was no better for the Pirates. Byram Hills ended Pearl River's season in the section playoffs in 2010.

The Pirates will try to turn that around Thursday and advance to the semifinals, which would be played Friday at the home of the higher seed.

Pearl River last played on Saturday, a 1-0 first-round victory over Tappan Zee in freezing rain and snow. Byram Hills began its first-round game against Panas Saturday, but had to complete it Wednesday due to the weather.
