Pearl River High School Students Wear Red for Justin Rogers

Two years ago, Pearl River High School freshman Justin Rogers was critically injured in a car accident May 3.

While Rogers was in the hospital, his classmates decided on their own to wear red to school to show their support because that was his favorite color. 

Rogers passed away due to the injuries suffered in the crash May 6, 2010.

Pearl River High School students will again wear red for Justin Rogers Monday, marking the two-year anniversary of his death. 

 "It is a great thought for them to remember Justin a couple of years after," said Pearl River High School Principal William Furdon. "It is nice for them to be able to do that. They came to me (Thursday) and said they were moving it from Friday to Monday."

Furdon said on both occasions, the students got together and spread the word amongst themselves.

"It was amazing," Furdon said of they day they all wore red two years ago. "I remember the kids coming off the bus and we were wondering what was going on. They had done it all by Facebook and other things."

Last year, Pearl River High School students Dominique Carrieri, Claire Greenwood, Christina Mahoney, and Kyle Kratzoc organized Palooza for Justin in his honor. 

According to Justin Rogers' mother, Laura, one of his friends  asked students to wear red in tribute this year. 

"It is so touching to see that his friends still hold him so close to their heart," Laura Rogers wrote in an email.

Furdon said there are also many smaller reminders. 

"It was all in the right spirit, the right tone," Furdon said. "Many of the kids in the building have never forgotten Justin anyway. You see little things around the building. Something with his name on it. It might be a bow. He's never been far away from our kids' thoughts."
