Pearl River Home Destroyed By Fire
A firefighter and a resident were injured and the family dog is missing.

PEARL RIVER, NY — Fire destroyed a family home at 314 Orangeburg Road Monday. A firefighter and a resident were injured. Orangeburg Road was closed for several hours.
Those helping the Pearl River Fire Department at the scene included Nanuet, West Nyack and Orangeburg fire departments, and the South Orangetown Ambulance Corps.
The family dog, a boxer named Barrett, is missing.

The cause of the fire was apparently a wood stove used to heat the house, Orangetown police Capt. Donald Butterworth told The Journal News.
The fire was first reported around 4:20 p.m. Crews brought in a backhoe after 9 p.m. to stabilize the structure. Firefighters didn't leave until 11:30 p.m., TJN reported.
