Pearl River Schools to Present Tenure Candidates, Hold Final Public Budget Hearing

Tuesday night's Pearl River Board of Education meeting will include a final public hearing of the proposed budget for 2011-12.

Tonight's Pearl River Board of Education, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in Pirate Cove at the high school, will include more than one item important to the district.

The personnel portion of the meeting will include presentations of candidates for tenure in the district. The meeting will also be followed by the final public hearing on the 2011-12 district budget. The budget will be voted on May 17 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Pirate Cove.

The ballot will technically include two propositions

  • Proposition 1: The 2011-12 Budget, which is $58,991,114 and includes a projected homeowner tax rate increase of 2.43%
  • Proposition 2: Extend Pearl River High School busing eligibility limit from 1.5 miles to three miles for grades 9-12 and from 1.5 miles to 2 miles for students in the eighth grade. This would save the district approximately $190,000

There was a candidate's night for the board of education scheduled for May 10, but there is only one vacancy on the board and current member Thomas DePrisco is running unopposed.
