Pearl River's Shine To be Honored at Chalk Talk Event

Pearl River senior Molly Shine will be honored with a ESPNHS Monday Night Football Chalk Talk RISE Above award as part of the NFL's Chalk Talk Series at the Timex Performance Center before the New York Giants' game against the St. Louis Rams.

Pearl River senior Molly Shine set a new meet record in the Division II race at the Briarwood Cross Country Classic in Philadelphia Saturday.

She will be recognized in a very different setting this afternoon as she will be one of two local athletes to be given an ESPNHS RISE Above Award at the Timex Performance Center at MetLife Stadium before the New York Giants' Monday Night Football Game against the St. Louis Rams.

Awards are given to two local high school athletes, one boy and one girl, as part of each stop in the NFL's Chalk Talk series of pre-game luncheons that take place before five Monday Night Football games this season.

Shine and Jerson Calderon from Pascack Valley High School will also be taken on a behind-the-scenes tour as well as a panel discussion with officials from the Giants, the NFL and ESPN. Host teams, in this case the Giants, identify local candidates for the award. Winners are selected by Community Affairs, Team ESPN and ESPN High School. The awards are given to student-athletes who overcome obstacles to succeed in sports and off the field.

ESPN Reporter Rachel Nichols will host the event along with former Giants' linebacker Antonio Pierce. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Giants owner Steve Tisch; Sean Bratches, ESPN, EVP of Sales and Marketing and former Giants Amani Toomer and Rodney Hampton are expected to participate in the event.
