Police: Pearl River Man Charged With Assault In Domestic Violence Incident

10-year-old boy injured, 46-year-old woman pushed to ground; Orangetown police officer injured in scuffle.

A Pearl River man was charged Saturday with assault and resisting arrest after a domestic violence incident involving a 10-year-old boy and a 42-year-old woman in Pearl River, where the man also scuffled with police and had to be subdued with a Taser, according to Orangetown Police.

An Orangetown police officer was also injured in the 4:36 p.m. incident on Center Avenue in Pearl River involving Enrie Vazquez, 46.

Police said when they went to investigate a report of domestic violence the 42-year-old woman told them Vazquez had grabbed the 10-year-old boy on the back of the neck and pushed him out a door. The woman also told police that when she confronted Vazquez about the treatment of the boy, she was pushed to the ground.

Town police officers said that when they tried to interview Vazquez he was uncooperative and attempted to push past them. In response, police said they used a Taser on Vazquez to subdue him.

Vazquez, police said, continued to resist arrest by fighting with town officers and struggling with them as he was handcuffed. Vazquez was arrested and taken to Orangetown police headquarters in Orangeburg.

Police said the 10-year-old boy had redness and swelling on the back of his neck and was complaining of pain in the neck area after the incident. As a result of the scuffle with Vazquez, Orangetown police said a town police officer sustained a back injury and was taken to Nyack Hospital by members of South Orangetown Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The officer was treated at the hospital and released.

At police headquarters, Vazquez complained of head pain and he, too, was taken by South Orangetown Ambulance Corps for treatment at Nyack Hospital.

Vazquez was arraigned in Orangetown Town Court in Orangeburg and ordered held in the Rockland County Correctional Facility in New City, without bail, pending a March 16 hearing on charges of second-degree assault, a felony, thrid-degree assault, a misdemeanor, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor. Police said Vazquez has three previous felony convictions.
