Repeat Drunk Driver Found Stopped In The Road: Orangetown Police

Orangetown police said the Clarkstown resident was being held pending arraignment.

ORANGETOWN, NY — A Valley Cottage man was arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges Thursday evening after he was found behind the wheel of a car stopped in the road, Orangetown police said.

Police said they found Refik Kukaj, 52, at 8:14 p.m. and concluded that he was driving while intoxicated.

The car did not have a required interlock device, which is often required of people who've been convicted of DWI. He did not have an active drivers license.

Kukaj faces felony charges of driving while intoxicated and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of operating a motor vehicle without an interlock device.

As of Friday morning, he was being held at Orangetown Police Headquarters pending arraignment.
