Rockland County's Chestnut Ridge Transportation Promotes National School Bus Safety Week

Industry-Wide Safety Education Effort Held October 20-24

Spring Valley, New York…October 15, 2014… Chestnut Ridge Transportation, a leader in student transportation throughout Rockland County, is advocating for safety awareness during National School Bus Safety Week, Oct. 20– 24. The theme of this year’s industry-wide public education campaign, “At My Stop, You Stop,” highlights the need for motorists to exercise caution near school bus stops.
Timothy Flood, Executive Vice President of The Trans Group, the parent company of Chestnut Ridge Transportation, emphasized the importance of school bus safety education.
“At Chestnut Ridge Transportation,” he explained, “we adhere to the highest possible safety standards, including ongoing driver training and education. However, one of the biggest challenges faced by school bus drivers is the number of vehicles that pass while students are loading and unloading. That’s why the theme of this year’s School Bus Safety Week is so important. When motorists see red lights flashing on a school bus, it’s crucial that they come to a full stop and wait until the red lights are done flashing before proceeding.”
According to Flood, who also serves as President of the National School Transportation Association (NSTA), all too often people see the lights flashing but drive right on by. “The numbers are staggering,” he explains. “It is estimated that 64,000 vehicles pass stopped school buses every day here in New York State. For the safety of our children, people must respect and obey the red lights on the school bus.”
The Trans Group has been recognized for its extensive efforts in safeguarding its passengers and employees. Additionally, the company uses the latest technology to further assure safety on its buses. All Trans Group buses are fitted with electronic fleet management systems that offer GPS services, enhanced pre-and-post trip bus inspection procedures, and provide child-check assistance to be sure no sleeping children are left on the bus.
