Rockland Psychiatric Patient Gets 2 Years in Prison for Attacking Another Patient

A Rockland Psychiatric Center patient has been sentenced to two years in prison for attacking another patient, using a metal paper towel mount cover as a weapon.

Leonardo Cruz, 32, a resident of the state facility in Orangeburg, was also sentenced by Rockland County Court Judge William K. Nelson to 1 ½ years post-release supervision. Cruz pleaded guilty to second-degree assault. 

District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe said that on Dec. 4, 2011, Cruz struck another patient in the head with a metal paper towel mount cover causing lacerations to the victim’s head, face, and hands at Rockland Psychiatric Center.
