Rockland Thunder 12U Softball Wins ASA Qualifier
The Rockland Thunder 12-and-under girls fast-pitch softball team will play in the ASA championships in August.
The Rockland Thunder rolled through the 12U Girls Fastpitch Softball ASA Qualifiers in Flemington, NJ last weekend.
The team -- which draws players from Congers, Nanuet, New City, Pearl River, Pearl River, Pomona, Tappan and West Nyack -- earned a spot in the ASA (Amateur Softball Association) Championships Aug. 3-7 in Salem, Virginia.
The Thunder swept all three of their games in the qualifier, defeating Finch's Aces by a score of 7-1, then taking two from the Jersey Bandits by scores of 6-2 and 5-0. Melane Lerche of West Nyack was the Tournament MVP and Brianna Acevedo of Pomona was named outstanding pitcher.
