Somers Blanks Pearl River in Section Girls Soccer Semis

Pearl River senior goalkeeper Francesca Cobuzzi stopped 18 of 19 shots, but the Pirates lost, 1-0, in the Section 1 Class A semifinals Friday at Somers.

"It was a close game throughout in large part because both teams played great defense and Francesca Cobuzzi played phenomenal in goal, recording 18 saves," Pearl River Head Coach Tim Peabody wrote via email. "Nine were routine but the other nine were really quite significant.

"Two days in a row we just ran out of gas and with a few people banged up we just came up a little short. We had some good shots and one or two that had  a chance to go in but one went over and the other the goalie made a diving save."

Pearl River, which was the No. 4 seed in the Class A tournament, finished the season 13-4-2.
