Spring Valley Man Accused Of DWI In Blauvelt

He was charged by Orangetown cops.

BLAUVELT, NY — A Spring Valley man is due in Orangetown court to answer a charge of driving while intoxicated. He was arrested Sunday by Orangetown police.

Police said they received a call at about 2:08 a.m. about a man asleep at the wheel of a car on Erie Street. When officers arrived, the man was still asleep and the car was running. (To get neighborhood stories like this one, SIGN UP for Patch’s Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts.)

They said they were able to wake him, and in talking with him smelled alcohol on his breath, saw he had bloodshot eyes and heard that his speech was slurred.

They arrested Exantus Covington, 33, and took him to police headquarters. A breathalyzer exam showed his blood alcohol level was more than two times the legal limit, police said.

He was released on bail and is due in court Oct. 26.
