Trash Truck Crash Crushes Congers Man's Arm

The Pearl River Fire Department was among the responders when a garbage truck in Chestnut Ridge tipped on its side Monday, injuring four.

There were three workers on the back of a Superior Waste and Carting Garbage Truck when it flipped over and struck a utility pole on South Pascack Road Monday.

The driver and the three passengers riding on the rear loader area were all injured, Ramapo police said.

The driver and two of the rear passengers sustained minor injuries. One of the passengers on the rear loader sustained a serious injury to his right arm. All of the parties were transported to Nyack Hospital via ambulance for further medical evaluation.

Orange and Rockland Utilities responded to the scene and temporarily shut power down to the homes in the immediate area.

South Spring Valley and Pearl River Fire Departments were on scene to assist. RPD’s Accident Investigation Unit is conducting an investigation of the incident.

Ramapo police told The Journal News that Congers resident Theodore Ochs crushed his arm between the falling truck and a guardrail.

Ochs was sent to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

A second worker who had been on the back of the truck, Orlando Rodriguez of New Windsor was taken to Nyack Hospital with serious injuries police told TJN, which also reported that Alvin Blow of Sleepy Hollow and the driver, Stony Point resident Jorge Lopez, were not seriously injured.
