Group Seeks Crossing Guards--for Turtles

It's egg-laying time for snapping turtles; Orangetown and Clarktown police have posted signs and volunteers are needed on Western Highway.

Drive along Western Highway and you’ll notice new, seasonal signs warning drivers of potential danger.

It’s the time of year that snapping turtles lay their eggs. And they cross Western Highway in West Nyack and Blauvelt to do it. In fact, according to the Turtles of Western Highway Facebook page, they’re starting a bit early this year.

The turtle help group is looking for volunteers to help control traffic when turtles are crossing over the next 3 weeks.
