WWII Veteran, Retired NYPD Detective McArdle Passes Away

Long-time Garnervill resident John J. McArdle, recently of Pearl River, passed away March 4 at the age of 85.

McArdle served three campaigns in the South Pacific with the 2nd Marine Division during World War II and was a NYPD Detective for 20 years before retiring.

McArdle was married for 60 years to his wife Mary, who is also deceased. He is survived by his children Ronald and Cheryl McArdle of Maine, Valerie and Bill Durkin of Highland Mils, Laura and Michael O'Connor of Cornwall, Gerard McArdle of Garnerville and Beth Sanborn of Pearl River with seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

"I have lost my hero and this area lost a WWII  Marine Corps veteran and retired NYPD detective," Sanborn said.
