• With Peconic Estuary at risk, Navy timeline too slow: Schumer (riverheadlocal.com) — PFAS contamination from the former Navy site in Calverton is moving toward the Peconic River and Peconic Estuary, raising long-term concerns for local drinking water and bay health. Senator Schumer and community leaders are pressing the Navy to speed up cleanup efforts, arguing that a projected 2039 timeline and limited interim treatment are not enough to protect Peconic-area waters and fisheries.
