2019 Candidate Profile: Frank Catalina For County Legislature

PEEKSKILL, NY — Westchester County has several contested races in this fall's election, including the race for County Legislature District 1. Peekskill Patch asked candidates in the contested races to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as election day draws near.

Frank Catalina, 62, a Republican from Peekskill, is running to represent District 1, which is comprised of Cortlandt, Peekskill and Yorktown. His opponent is Democrat Colin Smith.

Catalina is an attorney and a former two-term mayor of Peekskill. He is married with three children.

The single most pressing issue facing our community, and what I intend to do about it.

Probably the Indian Point closure. I plan to fight aggressively for financial compensation for the towns and villages and school districts that will lose one-third to 50 percent of their tax base.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidate seeking this post?

I have a PROVEN record of solid achievements.

Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.

Our district has serious issues pending. The A.I.M. pipeline; county homelessness; infrastructure — roads and parks in our district are disgraceful; a new county sales tax that is not uniform throughout the county

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

We turned around a financially failing city; we grew our way out of fiscal mismanagement rather than taxing our way out. Look at Peekskill today and everything you see is a direct result of our administrations — 524 NEW residential units….. 24 NEW commercial structures (representing over a half a BILLION DOLLARS in NEW construction) in a city where only a single Walgreens drug store (a $3 million project) was constructed in the previous six years!
