4-Year-Old Child In Car When Driver Arrested For Felony DWI In Peekskill: NYSP

He refused to submit to a chemical breath test, after being arrested on N. James Street, according to state police.

PEEKSKILL, NY —A Westchester County man was arrested over the weekend for potentially putting the life of a small child at risk, according to state police.

On Sunday, around 3:44 a.m., New York State Police said that troopers from Cortlandt stopped a vehicle driving north on N. James St., in the City of Peekskill, for traffic violations.

According to state police, while speaking with the driver, 47-year-old Jorge Quizhpi, of Peekskill, troopers noticed signs of intoxication. Standardized field sobriety tests were administered, which Quizhpi failed, NYSP said.

State police say that a 4-year-old child was also in the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Quizhpi was arrested and taken for processing, where he refused to submit to a chemical breath test, police said.

State police said the child was turned over to a sober party.

Quizhpi was charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger; misdemeanor driving while intoxicated; and several vehicle/traffic violations.

He was arraigned in Westchester County Centralized Arraignment Court and released on his own recognizance. Quizhpi is scheduled to appear before the City of Peekskill Court on March 12.
