Accused Shoplifter Caught after Search, Chase Near Cortlandt Town Center
He was finally caught in a Laurie Road back yard.
The New York State Police at Cortlandt announce the arrest of Daniel J. Everitt, 25, of Highland Falls, NY.
Police said Everitt was at the Home Depot in the Cortlandt Town Center at about 11:45 a.m. Dec. 20, completing a fraudulent transaction. After he finished, Home Depot security approached Everitt and attempted to interview him. Everitt resisted and the two scuffled. Everitt pulled a folding knife from his right pants pocket, which the security officer was able to knock out of his hand. Everitt then ran out of the store.
Responding State Police units, including a State Police K9 and State Police Aviation Unit, established a perimeter around the area where Everitt was last seen. A State Police K9 led troopers and investigators in the direction that Everitt fled.

During the search, a trooper spotted Everitt and chased him from Westbrook Drive, through the car dealerships on East Main Street (also known as State Route 6), and into a residential area near Laurie Road and Cynthia Road.
He was caught in a backyard on Laurie Road.

Everitt was charged with Robbery 1st degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree, and Falsifying Business Records 1st degree, all felonies. If convicted of the highest charge, he faces up to 25 years in State Prison.
Everitt was arraigned in the Town of Cortlandt Court and sent to Westchester County Jail without bail. He is due to reappear in Cortlandt Town Court Dec. 22.
