CORTLANDT MANOR, NY — An overnight house fire has devastated a Westchester County family, according to emerging media reports.

Four people, including two children, were critically injured in an early morning house fire in Cortlandt Manor, according to an ABC7 New York report. The fire broke out about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday on Sherwood Road, where firefighters found heavy flames throughout the two-story home, ABC News reported.

The station said two adults, a boy, and a girl were pulled from a second-floor bedroom.

The New York Post, citing Fire Chief Thomas Eade of Mohegan Lake, reported crews used ladders to remove people through second-floor windows because they could not get enough access through traditional means.

"Crews began an impeccable strategy called vent-enter-isolate-search where they put ground ladders — we couldn't get enough access through traditional means — so crews had to get these patients out of the windows above grade," Eade told the Post.

The Post also reported that one firefighter was being treated for exhaustion and smoke inhalation and that officials believed the fire may have started with an electrical issue, though ABC7 reported the cause remained under investigation.
