PEEKSKILL, NY — Ta teenage boy has died in yet another tragic house fire in Westchester County.
At 6:04 pm on Wednesda, the City of Peekskill Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire with entrapment at 115 High Street in the City of Peekskill.
Peekskill Fire Department units arrived on scene within two minutes from receipt of the alarm, where first arriving units encountered heavy fire in the multi-family dwelling.
Based on initial reports of trapped occupants in the building, firefighters conducted a rapid primary search of the building and located an unconscious teenager on the second floor.
Firefighters were able to remove the victim from the building, and immediate CPR was initiated. The teen was taken to the New York Presbyterian-Hudson Valley Hospital. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the he succumbed to their injuries.
"Our thoughts go out to the victim's family and our community during this difficult time," The department said in a statement. "The cause of the fire is under investigation in cooperation with the Westchester County Cause & Origin Team and the City of Peekskill Police Department."
Peekskill City School District Superintendent David Mauricio took to social media express a shared grief.
“It is with profound sadness that we learned of the tragic loss of one of our out-of-district students in a fire last evening," Mauricio said. "On behalf of the entire Peekskill City School District, I extend our deepest condolences to the student's family and loved ones.”
